NGSS Resources: NGSS NOW – 5 things to know about quality K-12 science education this month

Of all of the science education resources that automatically show up in my inbox on a regular basis ( and there are a lot ), NGSS NOW is one I make sure to check out no matter how busy I am. It’s a very digestible and quick look at five science education resources / happenings, new and old, aligned to A Framework and the NGSS. If you are a science coach, head of department, the science lead in your K-5 team, head of teaching and learning focusing on your science program or an educator working to up your understanding and implementation of the NGSS in your classroom, this may be a resource you want to leverage.

West Ed, a not for profit leader in science education aligned to A Framework for K-12 Science Education, releases one edition of this newsletter each month with the tagline, “5 Things to Know about Quality Science Education in (insert month and year).” I often find something new or a reminder of a quality resource that I had forgotten about but that might deserve revisiting.

To give you a sense of the resource, here are the titles of the 5 resources NGSS NOW shared in this past newsletter in January 2026:

  • Science Classroom Implementation Descriptors
  • Using Performance Tasks to Support Instruction
  • New STEM Teaching Tool: Defending and Leveraging Public Climate & Environmental Justice Data
  • Teachers’ Customizations of Storyline Science Curricula: Adapting for Their Students and Instructional Contexts
  • ICYMI: Task Annotation Project in Science (TAPS) Science and Engineering Practices

If you visit the newsletter you will see the subscribe button in the top left corner. They will not send you any emails other than the monthly NGSS NOW newsletter : ). As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or if you think I might be able to support your science program.
